If you notice, they don't show a antenna on any Mustang brochures! I was wondering ,before I got my 06 if they were in the front or back glass. Until I went to a dealership, and seen that Ford went the old fashion(cheap) way, on the fender.
They work ok. That being said, 14 inch antennas do work better than the 8 inch versions. They line up with the roof-line so it looks more like a factory piece than the original.
14 inch black mustang antenna
14 inch chrome mustang antenna
8 inch black mustang antenna
8 inch chrome mustang antenna
13 inch billet aluminum mustang antenna
The billet piece looks great on a car with a number of billet accents BUT it doesn't stay nice looking on a daily driver that sees the elements (better for a weekend car or show car) and you would DEFINITELY want to consider removing most these antennae when going through a car wash because they're more likely to bend rather than bounce. The 14 inch aren't as bad as the others in this respect.

I installed the interior amplified windshield antenn and it works better the the stock antenna. Initially, I used a black allen bolt to fill the antenna hole until my body shop could fill in the hole and paint it. The body shop did a great job, the color match ws perfect and the fender is very smooth. You can't see any signs of the original antenna.
I wrote up instructions and posted them here
Below is a picture of my car with the antenna removed, next to a stock car.

The antenna is a Metra 44-UA205 . They are about $21 and are available from a number of different vendors. I don't remember where I bought mine, but if you do a google search you will find a lot of vendors.
