Default Removing 3M Tape... Pain in the *%%!!!

About 2 months ago, I decided to install some rain deflectors since I smoke and can wind up driving for long periods on the road and in the rain. These were bought from a Ford dealership and packaged by Ford. I am assuming the double sided tape they used is 3M because I had read it somewhere. They affix to directly to the paint just above the side windows.

One of the rain deflectors decided it did not like high pressure car washing and started to come off. I decided I like using the high pressure car wash more than I liked the rain deflectors (not to mention, I kind of like the look without them better after all). So I researched removal methods and wound up getting some 3M Adhesive & Wax Mark Remover.

Man oh man.... It took me about 2 1/2 hours just to remove one! I will do the other one in a day or two when I have more time. That 3M remover stuff works, but the 3M tape on these deflectors is very thick and foamy. It took forever to slowly, slowly dissolve this stuff off. I even resorted to very carefully using an ice scraper to remove some of the thicker parts to make rubbing the rest off easier. Pain in the butt!!!

The moral of this story? 3M tape can be removed.... but man oh man.... do think twice about what you decide to stick onto your car!

I'll try some WD-40 on the other one and see how that goes. Do auto parts stores typically sell finishing line?
