Has anyone removed fake gas cap on the rear trunk lid?

 

A few have done it but it leaves 2 holes that have to either be filled in or covered with a panel.

I've removed the fake gas cap and used fishing line. Cut about 2 feet long and slip line behind the cap and work the line back and forth taking it down to about half way.then work the line from the bottom up .It takes a while but that two way tape glue is some real sticky stuff.If your putting on a CDC type black out panel remove the two way tape glue from the deck lid before installing the new panel.I heard of using heat guns but my painter got the cap so hot it warped the cap.

 

never ever use a heat gun, unless you're really good at it, even then don't. either a hair dryer or letting it sit out in the sun (varies by location) will more than suffice. this goes for any type of removal that used adhesives on a car.

my next mod along with the cdc spoiler so i can fill in all the holes at once..

 

My painter had to order a new fake gas cap becuase the heat gun he used melted the GT decal.The cap is plastic and doesn't like heat.
