They vary but most are 3M adhesive, it is a good idea to use a pre-adhesive to the surface first them apply the panel then they stay solid. The one you saw at a dealership was probably the Roush, they have brackets you install on the car then they use small screws to hold the panel to the brackets.

Cool thing about the Roush (not sure about others) they come painted to match you just select the color when ordering so its quick and easy to add on

Try this link for more info on louvers, including a link to the ones I got new, painted, for $184 w/ shipping:

All the prep that is needed is that you clean the windows, then clean the areas where the 3M tape will go with rubbing alcohol. Hold the louvers up against the window so you see where they will line up. Then peel the backing off the tape and slowly lower it to the glass. Press lightly. Make sure it's lined up right. If not slowly pry it off and try again. Once it's on right press down firmly for about 20-30 seconds and let them sit for a while.

Got mine from DG Customs, they came painted for $185.00....I really like them because they do leave some visibility and they were so easy to install....prep was pretty easy...clean dry car......window and outside area prep with alcohol pads.......then heated the surface with a hair dryer to allow the 3m tape to stick better.....and if a highly mod challenge lady can do it....you know its easy...just align them straight and press to adhere the strips and let sit for 24 hours and your ready to go......I also liked the fact I can get a cleaning pad in between the louvers to clean the outside glass.

That's true. Most have 3M double sided tape. Full description here:

They all have tape, even the Roush.
Roush uses tape to hold the brackets, then you use screws.
Nifty gimmick.
There is a style in development (maybe out now?) that replaces the window itself.
Looks nice, sits flush.
Not sure I want to be popping out my windows, but it is the best look I think.
