Default $1400.00 for a hood scoop and install!?!?!?!

So, I called the dealership I bought my car from today to get an exact quote on purchasing a hood scoop, with paint and install. The Serviceman came back and quoted me $1400.00!!!! Ok, I know for a fact I can buy a scoop online for about $150. It CANNOT cost $1250 to:
[ul][*]Put on a coat of primer, three coats of gloss black, and a coat of clear coat[*]drill two holes in my hood[*]attach scoop to the lid with 3M tape, using the holes as a guide[/ul]
Please someone tell me the Serviceman is smoking something a little stronger than Camel cigarettes at this point. If this is the going price, I am going to quit my day job and become a friggin Ford Mechanic!

Buy a pre-painted scoop and install it yourself?

yeah, that's a rip off deal for sure!
I get the feeling 'he' doesn't want to do the job.
Find another solution.

Damn dude! Thats alot you probably could get a new hood installed and painted for that money. If I were you I would just try to find a recommend body shop near by.

Yep, somebody was smoking crack.......

Buy a pre-painted Roush for about 225.00, and spend all of an hour and a half installing it yourself.......

i think there's a thread somewhere online here for how to install a scoop...if there's not you could ask the people you buy it from for a detailed write-up

The dealer was prolly thinking of a functional hood scoop which is available for our model. he was going as far as cutting into our hood and what not. It just wasn't a quote for a non-functional hood scoop. Aesthetic hood scoop might set you back like $400 after install, no metal work to be done.
Thats the only thing i can think of
