Default My door handle sticks

Hi Ya'll.....

I need some help from you guys on my 2005 GT. My exterior drivers side door handlewill not close completely. The handle is slightly extended and will not seat flush unless pushed in. I'vetried spraying lubricant which helped a little but I'm suspecting I might have a larger problem. Have any of you guys experienced this problem? Please HELP before I take it to the stealership.

Oh, mileage on my 2005 is 58K. And one more thing, my granddaddy has a Model T and the door handles still work! What gives?

I have seen some that have the linkages bent on the latch and they overlap in the wrong spot. You can alsways take the door panel off to investigate it.

I've read that it's a common problem with the handles. My passenger side does it but I have been too lazy to have the dealership fix it. I better have that fixed along with the emblem on the steering wheel before my warranty runs out.

You can buy chrome door handles... google it, I think they are called billet ones. If they would look good on your car anyways.

I assume the '07's are the same design as the '05's because, when I bought mine, the salesman told me to be careful not to yank really hard on the handles. Part of the mechanism apparently deforms.

I had the same problem on my old 05. The handle would get stuck like 1/8" out. I ended up having to have them replace it under warrantee. My dads buddy is a mechanic at the dealership that did that work so I did the replacement with him and it turned out that the spring inside the handle had just lost its springyness by a tiny bit.. You can order the replacement from ford parts if you aren't covered, I dont remember how much it was. Taking the door apart was easy though, all total it was maybe an hour job.

Take it back to the dealer. They may be able to get Ford to pay to fix it. It seems to be a very common problem - it happened to our passenger-side door shortly after we bought our '05 - and isn't something you'd expect to break on a two year-old car.
