What percent tint are you all using on your side and rear window?
I had my local shop install my tints this morning....told them to put 35% on the sides and 5% on the rear as I didn't want the car to have a very dark appearance. Well they tell me to come back in the afternoon and it will be ready for me. Well I got the car back and its 20% on the sides instead of the 35% I asked for.
What would you do? Am I a cop magnet now?

Yes I know the laws in Illinois regarding window tint, I see so many cars on the streets with blacked out windows and cant believe they get away with it. Thats why I wanted to go with the 35% on the sides instead of the 20%. Looks like I will have to go back to the shop that did the install and have them put on the % that I asked for.
Stupid thing is I didn't even look at the receipt until later tonight and there it is in bold ink, 20% sides and 5% rear.
Yea I should have looked at it when I picked the car up but it was raining and I was tired from working midnights with no sleep so I just wanted to get the car home.......Besides I told the owner on the phone what I wanted and then again when I got to the shop so I didn't think anything of it.
The car does look sweet though!

 

Yeah, don't know why they would do that. At least here in MN they do allow some tint on the front side windows. I'm kinda picky about those things so I did have them show me the tint before-hand and they even offered up the light meter afterwards just to prove it was within the law. It's crazy how much the law varies from state to state. Also strange iswhich states have theno-tint law like IL does.

 

just had 15% put all the way around on my moms, looks great. cops out here dont really both w/tint laws

 

By where i live at in IL the cops dont even bother with the tints here. Because they know they can spend all there time writing as many tickets as they want and were still gonna leave the tints on and get them. I use to get pulled over by the same cop all the time and he was like im not even gonna write you anymore tickets because i can see them tints are never gonna come off your car are they? I was like nope. He just laughed and told me to have a nice day.

i don't have mine tinted at all and if i did, it would be 35% max. down here a tint ticket will run you $180 because the cops like screwing over the broke college kids. the max allowed is 20% so i wouldn't want to give them any reason to pull me over. i already don't run a front license plate which is illegal by itself so i don't need another reason to go down to the courthouse. i had friend that got a ticket last week for a tint; he told a shop to install 20% since it's the max allowed and when the cop used his little %reader thingy it read 19.7% and he got a $180 ticket.

 

5% on rear window and 20% on the sides with a 6inch 5% strip on the front window.
