Default Stripes.

Right now I have vinyl stripes and they are already peeling, had them for about a month[:'(][:@]. I know people, and have heard people say they have had their vinyl stripes for a long period of time, even years and not having them peel. I understand that the peeling doesn't mean its the vinyl, and could be a variety of other things, including 'install' ...that being said, I still think I'm going to have the stripes painted on, unless there is anything bad I don't know about painting them on...other than you can't really get painted stripes taken off?

Has anyone had any bad stories or heard anything about painted stripes? Also, if I do get them painted, should I get them painted from my Ford dealership or some other shop? I think the price at the dealership was around $1,600. Sounds like a lot for paint, but I've heard people say around $2,000 for stripes.

Hey,
For $1,000 I had my hood, cdc chin, rear spoiler and black out between tails painted and clear coated. Went to local body shop.

Just make sure you take a good look at it before you accept it. Mine went back three times to get them right.

I'd look around, $1,600.00 is a bit high and that's exactly what I would expect from a dealership anyways. Anytime I HAVE to go to a dealership for something, I like to bring a tube of KY with me.When I was shopping around forpaintquotes, they were all around a $1,000.00.

Mine are vinyl, which I installed myself, haven't had any problems what-so-ever with them (BSM kit). Sounds like an installation issue to me. If she was nice a waxy and the installersdid take measureswhile putting the stripes down that'll happen.

I think the biggest draw back for painted stripes is the one you alreadytouched on, they're much more permanent than vinyl.I think after a year or so, I'll takemy silver stripes off and either go with white, flat black, or no stripes at all.

Those are silver stripes? In that black and white picture it looks like your car is black and your stripes are white.

If you get painted stripes for 1000 you are doing realy good.
Quality costs money and a good set of painted stripes, wetsanding clewarcoating and buffing is ovr 40 hour of labor. Rememeber to do it right you must remove the bumpers and spoiler.
My paint materials alone (PPG) were about 650 dollars.Paint, additive, pearls etc.
House of Kolor paint would be even higher.
My stripes are like tatoos and you cant feel any edge on them.

You shouldn't feel the edge if they are painted, right? Yeah...I'm thinking the dealership will do it right...if they don't, I know i'll get my money back. That is an assurance I'm not sure I will get anywhere else.

I don't know...does the dealer actually have paint facilities on site? Most job it out to a body shop. There are some good shops.... I suggest you check out some shops and if you don't know of any see if you can find a local Stang club website or any dedicated car site..ie Corvette Club, Hot Rod clubs, ext. We typically know through our clubs and car show contacts where they do good quality work. AND it is pricey, paint is labor intensive and I think metallics are higher.

Yeah, the dealership has paint facilities on site. They did a fantastic job painting my hood. First time they outsourced it and they were not happy with the paint job (I was pissed), but before I could show how upset i was, they asked if It was alright to repaint it on site. It turned out very well. I really need to find a local mustang club...and/or try to find some good local shops. Still havn't seen either around here.
