All states have different laws but I'm pretty sure any tinting of the rear lights (and also headlights) is illegal in all states. Makes it harder for people to see your vehicle. Cops don't like that.

Technically, no modifications of any kind are legal. Back in "the day", when blue dots were all the rage everyone I know that had them got a hard time from the police. The story was always the same, "You may not leaglly modify a D.O.T. approved light lens on your car." Defective equipment tickets were sometimes given, sometimes not.

I'm pretty sure our law says its legal if it is clearly visible from 200 feet or something..
as for it being easy.. it is so simple I can't even describe..
Go to Walmart, buy the 20% tint in the auto section (not expensive).. install it yourself.. and presto.. you are done.. If you don't like it just take it off..
plus you can use that extra tint to tint things that dont even need to be tinted.. (its what I do with my extra paint too .. If I have to much I feel I just have to use it on everything..)
