Got a GT take off wing
If it worked for others, go ahead!
Not bashing it, just never really worked as well as the adhesive remover that I have gotten used to using. 3M makes an adhesive remover that works pretty well (and won't screw with paint at all). They sell the stuff in cans at most paint stores / auto shops / probably NAPA has some too. It works pretty well to strip any gum/adhesive left over by tape, vinyl (like from the stripes on cars), add-on body panels, etc. Whatever you use, don't leave it on for too long or sit in the sun (god forbid), no cheapy napkin type wipe up jobs (swirlies).
When you are done, clean it all off with a nice water rinse and some soap (like you were washing that part of the car). Then prep it with a little IPA (isopropyl alcohol) that you can find most anywhere. I don't think it needs TOO much prep since it is also helped out by the bolts that it comes with right?
For future ref... you'd wanna do this when putting on any decals on the car as well (especially if your car is waxed in that area).

I put a CDC trim panel on my trunk between the taillights
and about a week after the springyness of the curvature
caused the 3m tape to become unstuck on the sides. I
had to remove the CDC panel and the tape actually seperated
and left the adhesive on both the panel and trunk lid. [:@]
I used goo gone and rolled it off with my thumb and patience.
I kept the surface wet with goo gone and rubbed rubbed rubbed.
It took forever and had to be done with many rest periods.
After it was all off, I did not notice one sign of goo gone being
used or anything ever have been there. It looked like it looked
when I took delivery of the Stang. No damage whatsoever.
Of course I was not worried about damage as I put the CDC
pane back on with triple the 3M tape on the sides and clamped
it for the proper adhesive cure time (24 hours). Its been
stuck on there for about 6 months now and no lifting.
Do you have the two required 3M adhesivepads for under the
spoiler where it touches the trunk lid?

So you're saying not to use the Goo Gone or what do you suggest?

Heck, even WD-40 might work and it won't harm your paint.
Like the poster said above, the key is not letting it stay on, but once completed clean the area good.

As a recent remover of my 07 Pony Wing, I can attest the following:
1) it IS a PITA, especially doing it yourself...a second set of hands to gently hold up the ends as you saw through the tape would have been nice...
2) regular fishing line worked well, although be PATIENT and go SLOW. I did cause a scratch on the trunk edge, but I fixed it with spray on touch up paint and clear but it was covered up by the new vinyl stripes I put on the next day anyways.
3) Goo Gone rocks! Do let it soak on the residue for 10-15 minutes, then start using a plastic squeegee and gently begin "scraping the stuff off. Eventually, you can pull and work it off with your fingers once you get it going. No issues with residue, paint, etc. after it's all done.
4) GT bolts right on with no issue. Just make sure to get some new 3M tape for the bottom of the posts so you aren't attaching the spoiler posts directly to the surface of your trunk lid.
Have fun!
