Racing stripes
So i was thinkin about gettin the racing stripes for my GT. Do most people go with the decals or do most go with actual paint? I mean aftermarket too. I bought the car and it was all red with no stripes. People that do have the decals do they stick ok and look alright? or should i just drop the cash and get stripes painted on there?

RE: Racing stripes
If you have the means, paint is the best choice.
If you're not sure if you'll like it, you could go vinyl and take them off easily if you're not happy.
You can install many sets of vinyl before reaching the cost of paint.
My choice would be black, but white looks good too.
Then all you have to do is decide on the many different stripe designs.

RE: Racing stripes
You probably don't know much about this yet but let me explain it.
Nobody paints stripes correctly for 300-400 dollars.
Here is what the job entails:
Remove the rear spoiler
Remove front bumper
Remove back bumper
Wet sand those bumpers to remove clearcoat
Wet sand hood, roof and trunk lid
Tape out the stripes on all the body piecesto exact proportions of stripes
Spray the stripe paint color
Remove tape
Spray several coats of clear
Wet sand all the clearcoat on the body panels you just painted
Re-assemble spoiler and bumpers
Use a semi-orbital buffer to polish all the clear coat
This is approximately 40 hours of labor. If laboourr is 40-60 dollars an hour that makes the labor alone range from 1600 -2400 dolars.
Quality paint and clearcoat is not cheap. If you use PPG paint or House of Kolor paint you could easily spend 500-900 just for the paint materials. For example I had two different pearl highlights added to my paint and a color changing additive that changes the stripe color from dark red to bright red. My paint materials were 650.00 alone. You cant even buy good qualitypaint for this type job for 300-400 dollars. Your gonna tale a new car and add cheap stripes?
So a good set of correctly done stripes would cost 2000-3000 dollars. If you get a deal on the labor you might get them for 1500-2000 but that would be if you got a great deal.
You are absolutely insane if you let anybody just spray white stripes over your paint.

RE: Racing stripes
If you look at the back of Mustang sexual you can see that his silver stripe does not have the same clear gloss as the rest of his base color. I would bet that you can feel the stripe on his car, as it will be over the original paint. There will be an edge on the stripe that is above the base color. If the stripes are buried in clearcoat they will have the same gloss as the rest of the paint and there will be no edge. It will all be one smooth flat surface like the stripes are just a tattoo. If you look at thisimage of my hood you can see the same reflection over the stripes as the rest of the hood because it is all clearcoated.
