Default functional hoods

i waslooking into a hood upgrade for looks and lowering engine temps. is there any hood that is better at lowering temps than another, i like the looks of a cowl induction, but how do these compare w/ other aftermarket hoods. post pics too if you got 'em.

HEAT EXTRACTOR HOODS such as the following - are the way to go if under hood temps are your concern - and the ones out of carbon or fiberglass will help shed a few pounds off of the front.



just search heat extractor hood - pleanty are available

I'm in the same boat. I'd like to eventually get a hood that will lower underhood temps but not sure what to get. The one that i've been eyeing lately would be the steeda cowl but I also like the regular heat extractor types as well.

Fiberglass hoods will NOT help you lose any weight in front. Since the stock hood is aluminum, fiberglass hoodsare going to be heavier. I emailed Keystone Restyling (the manufacturer of the 3D carbon hood pictured above) and they told me the hood weighs 61 pounds! I have heard the stock hoodisabout 25 - 35 lbs.

I'm thinking of going with this hood myself, but getting an aluminum D/S to make up for the added weight.

Hi onederful100,

The only lightweightfunctional hoods that reduce under hood temps areFord GT500andSaleen's S281S/C hood in aluminum. Most of the glass I've seen are heavier than the stock hood and flex like mad atany kind of speed, I don't trust them. Another option is to have vents added to the stock hood at the rearlike the Saleen hoods. You can order the grills from Saleen.

Yeah I think the Saleen Aluminum hoods are great but it is $1300 for the hood unpainted plus shipping, ouch.

I think I am going to get the Cervinis Concept hood without the ram air attachment.



Or the Cervinis Heat extractor




Good luck,

Hoods are alot of money in the end but are defineatly worth it.

Prices Approximate from research

$600 for hood shipped
$200 paint prep
$200 paint

$1000 total, That will only make that first rock chip all the more painful. But dang they look good.

I have the Steeda cowl hood, and I've been pleased with it. Not sure how much, if any, heat has been reduced, but I like the look of a cowl hood and Steeda's was very good quality. I agree, though, that fibreglass hoods don't do a whole lot for weight reduction. My 'glass hood seems to me to weigh roughly the same as the stock hood did.
