35% tint
Alright so going to be getting tint for the front door windows and the rear (just ordered SHR louvers) and debating on what do to tint wise. I got a doctors' note but still even with that the law is 35% all around here in VA but I hear everybody saying 20% is the magic number. I will get the shop to show me what it looks like before put it on but wanted to hear opinions on here about it. So is 35% too light? Remember still a college student so not sure what happens in VA if you get a fix it ticket or what but I can't be paying for tickets and retinting.
I would say 35% is too light, but if you're worried about the tickets (which are typically around $100 a pop) you might just want to go with it anyway so you don't get as much attention from the cops. Even 35% is better than none, so there's that at least.
Also, if you have a light colored car (white, silver, light blue, etc) the lighter tint will still look darker compared to it being on a dark car. The color of your interior also makes a big difference. A dark interior will help the lighter tint look better.
If you're really, really worried about tickets, I just wouldn't tint at all. You already will have the sweet SHR louvers, just tint the rear glass dark (20% or darker) and your car will still look badass.
I'm tinting my car 20% all around this summer, and I've accepted the fact that I'm going to get some tickets for it, I consider it a tint tax for getting the good look. If money is tight enough that getting a tint ticket means not buying groceries for a week or missing some bills or whatever, the risk is too high to bother with it. SHR louvers and a tinted back window will keep your Mustang looking sharp, but on the friendly side of the law.

Curious as to how you went to get a doctors excuse for the tint law?
Who'd you ask for it? I live in GA and the tint law is 32% limit not including front glass, but I want to tint my front glass. Still debating whether to go 20% or not.

Well I wear contacts so I see an eye doctor on occasion and I do have a little trouble with sun not enough to warrant a doctor's note but I made it seem that way. I told him I get headaches while driving when it is really sunny basically
haha way to work the system! never thought of that. I used to run around with 2.5% tint on my '68, no one here cares. Have you ever heard of someone being pulled over for their tint where you live? It just surprises me that any cops waste their time on it.
But I definitely think 35% is too light. I would be willing to bet you'd be ok with 20%, but if cops look for it then you might want to reconsider. I mean how are they gunna prove it's 20% and not 35% just by looking at it?

I don't know I think the thing about going dark that worries me the most is that when I'm at college (Virginia Tech baby) and when back home (some serious boondocks...just sound out the name of the city Mechanicsville)there aren't tons of cars with too dark of tint. So I think I would stick out like a sore thumb as if don't bring enough attention by driving a sports car. I might have to talk to a couple of cops I know to see what they are like. Most people say that 35% is too light and although it would be better than nothing I don't want to be one of those guys that gets it 35% tint then is like man should have gone darker.
If you want to see 35%, check my sig, I have 35 all around - I live in CA and tinting the driver/passenger side windows are pretty strict. My tints are just light enough for the police to see you, but dark enough to keep me cool during the day - and looks darker in the mid-late afternoon. It helps that I have a dark car with a black interior too.
