I painted the interior of my 79 F150. Went from red to Black. Used Dupont interior paint and it turned out well. Truck is gone so I don't have picts... I painted it in 87 and got rid of it last year and it still looked nice.

Did you go for a gloss finish, or did you just go for a regular look?

painting plastic pieces can be challenging - they make adhesion promoters and paints specifically for vinyl, leather, and plastic - the one's i've used look good for awhile, and then start to crack, peel, etc. i do agree on changin the interior a lil bit - i wanted to do welts, but in chrome. however, i couldn't get it to stick - tried everything - maybe i'll get to trying it again eventually. i like the woodgrain, but idk if i really want to do it, just in case that crap decides to start peeling or whatever - so for now, all i have is a tribar pony emblem on the pass side and a skull in the power outlet

Go to your local paint store. Not Autozoned, O Really's, Nappy or anything like that. Your local Automotive paint supplier. Get some PPG 103 cleaner,adhesion promoter, interior dye.Wipe all pieces you want to paint in one direction with the cleaner. Pick up theadhesive promoter and follow the directions. (shake well and spray on), follow up with the dye you purchased from the A.P.S. I use S.E.M, imho its the best. This is the way a ton of your automotiveoem stuff is done. When we get replacement pieces to repair interior parts this is the process we use. Most oems only make the pieces in one color, so you gotta dye the others to match.Looks factory. Its easy and will last a looooooong time if done correctly. Cost is gonna be about $60, give or take some cash. Hope it helps.

Hey Poloz...thanks for the tip. Another question that I hope someone here can answer is....Is there somewhere that I can order vinyl door panel inserts...like what the interior upgraded stangs have? Pretty much like what 07 Stang has here...not talking about the welts now...just the vinyl.
ORIGINAL: 07 Stang

I put welts in my doors to give it some contrast;

i do custom painting and bodywork and on my mustang i took off pretty much anything in the interior that would easily come off to paint. ie. panel around window switches speaker cover, trim around gear shifter, the trim around door lock ****, the insinde of the door handle and etc. start off by sanding everybit of texture out of the plastic with 220 grit paper. it takes a long time but is essential. then spray some bullydog adhesion promoter on it, then prime it with a heavy build primer about 3 coats. let cure/dry then sandwith 320 grit if smooth then wet sand with 600 grit if not then reprime and start again. then paint and clear with automotive exterior paint. i dont have pictures beacuse im out of state if needed when i get back on 15th i will take pics for you. brigthened inside up alot and looks great. number one compliment i get on the car is the interior.
