There is another option that no one has mentioned. How about a light GOLD stripe. It would look great but might not work if you have chrome, polished alum. elsewhere. If not that, go with silver!

Since DuckBubbles mentioned it, here's a CAR/RedFire with gold 10". The rear shot is all I see.

And All i can find with black is Torch Red, but just to give you an idea, here's a couple Torches...

10" Black with Pins

10" Gold, again on Torch.

The last couple images, you can probably manipulate in a photo editing program to get something closer to CAR.

Personally, I'm always at least a little partial to flat black. But that's me. The flat black CS stripes look great on the CAR, full stripes might work just as well.

Not the style you're looking at, but the same dark red with flat black...

I'm sure a little more searching would find more pictures of exactly what you're looking for... but that should give you plenty to think about.

Your doing the right thing having them painted on. It really is up to you!
I like it when you bring the stripes down to the ground on the front and the rear. Is this for a daily driverand how flashy do you want to get with it? You know you want stripes so thats a big part out of the way.... know for color get some paint samples to help you choose.

I put a Ford silver metalic on mine but if I were to do it again I would of put heavier metalflake silver since mine is garaged and for fun. Sun will not hurt it so much.
I want to see a mustang done in the pearlized or gasoline look White reflective. I think that would be sweet. Good luck with your choices and remember it will look great on your mustang.
