Painted stripes
I have a Black 06 GT Convertible. I would like to get charcoal stripes painted on the car. I was told it would be best to have the stripes painted metallic, wet sand the edges of the stripes (to get rid of the edges) and finish with several clear coats on top. I have received quotes ranging from $1,700 - $3,500! Does anyone have any advice or suggestions? I live in Alexandria, VA and would greatly appreciate any referrals to a good shop that has reasonable prices.
Yes definetly use as metallic paint. Make sure that the shop uses a good quality paint. I don't agree with the wet sanding the edges to remove tape lines. If you sand basecoat you need to put more paint back over it. When they lay the stripes out if they use fine line or a similar tape to lay out the stripes you will not a have a very big edge. You only want to use enough of the stripe color to get it covered, you do not want to have a high film build. 2-3 coats of a medium solids or high solids clear coat will cover the edges then a good wet sand and buff and you will not feel any edges. $1700 sounds a little high depending on where you want the stripes. Good luck.
