Well i cut mine today. Getting that ball off was the hardest part. All i did was wrap it in a couple layers of towl to minimize scratches then grabbed it with visegrips and hammered it till it finally popped off. Then i used a cutoff whell to cut the antenna (i cut to about 17 inches which is fairly level with the roof of the car). Then just sand down the wire that wraps around the antenna at the top and smoth out the edges. super glue the ball on and its done. I had to touch up a few scratches with spray paint. the only thing i dont like is the fact i used flat black when the antenna is more of a semi gloss, but its just the very tip so its not to noticeable. I havent tested the reception, but it looks good compared to the usual flag staff.

after looking at it more today im really happy with it. Its just below the height of the car so its not tall but its not too short. Looks alot better, and i didnt notice much if any distortion in the radio

The only thing you may notice reception wise is fringe reception when signals are weak. If you never checked a particular distant radio station at a specific point before and after for comparison, you may never notice a difference but, if signal strength had been measured it would be less after shortening the antenna.
Saddleup, I need to consult you. My antenna has been erect for more than 4 hours. It needs "professional" assistance. How ya' been, gorgeous? Need more jerky?
