Since this thread is about removing the splinters rather then a vote to keep them I'll stick to the topic. Like someone else said use fishing line in a sawing motion, make sure you spray some soapy water down as you are doing it or the line will quickly bind up. Once it's all off some goo gone will take the glue off w/ doing any damage to your headlights.
