pinhead sized rust spots over car
Hello,
I've had my car for less than a year (bought an '07 new in mid '08). I just went to wax my car today and I'm noticing a ton of pinhead sized rust spots all over the car. They aren't limited to a specific location. I waxed my car several times, washed it throughout the winter, and had it in a garage most of the time when not driving.
Something seems odd. Less than a year old, less than 14k miles, and i have all of these spots on my paint? In addition, the rear emblem's paint is chipping off.
Does this seem like something I should bring up to my dealer?

I'll bet it is rail dust or other industrial fallout that can be removed with a good clay bar. I get that from time to time on my DD and it is because if you live within 5 miles of a railroad track or manufacturer that has a railroad track for delivery of parts etc. you get this dust which oxidizes in your paint and causes rust spots similar to what your describing...... Get a clay bar!

OK. I'll try to get a close up pic.
In the meantime, I'll check out the other cars at my house and see if they also have this issue. I've lived at this house for 10 years though and didn't notice this on my previous cars. If they have those spots also I guess I can attribute it to a railroad or something.

Are you sure they are rust spots? How about pinhead sized bumps that are rust/brown colored (fungus spores)? Do you park near any type of mulch? What color are your other cars, the spores show up great on lighter cars, like silver...

No, I'm not 100% sure they're rust. They are the same color. I can run my finger over them and they don't feel like any sort of a bump really. I can't rub them off (at least with my finger). We don't have any sort of mulch nearby.
The other cars are dark gray and black, so nothing light to compare with.

Do you smoke? Was anyone smoking near your car? Was someone flicking ashes out their window while you were driving behind them? I had marks similar to what you are describing because of ashes burning through the clear coat and paint on my previous car. I know it was ashes because I so the ashes on my car, wipes them away and underneath it went straight to the metal.
