Default Painting Rear Faux Gas Cap Flat Black. Anyone tried Flat Clear Coat?

So I decided to spend the day prepping and painting the gas cap and I figured id try some Krylon Flat Clear Coat but im having some problems. Every time I put a coat of it on it would leave small white specks all over the piece and they wont go away. So my question is did you guys that did this just use a few coats of flat black and call it a day or did you have any luck with a flat clear coat? thanks guys

Pics? Sounds like bad prep work or too much paint at one time.

I dunno about to much paint, im using krylon to repaint my jet ski and ive found that too much is way better then not enough. Spray paint dries so quick it makes a sandpaper texture if its to light, but if you get it thick enough to stay wet and level itself out then its way smoother.

Cant help you about the white dots, im painting my ski white so i wouldnt know... i didnt bother clear coating it though
