Default bodywork recommendations

The majority of my time playing with cars is around road racing. So, lets just say our standards for body work are much lower than most! I've painted my race car plenty of times, but its just not the same as street quality.

Well, I lent my street S197 to the old man, and he brought it back with a wrinkled fender and hood. A body shop gave me an estimate of $3400 which includes a $1200 hood and a new fender...Now, personally I just dont see why this should be that expensive.

I've looked at outfits like Pershing and DnH auto parts to see about getting a pre-painted hood and fender and just install them myself. Alternatively I could buy the OEM panels, install them, and then go to a body shop to get pro paint sprayed on. I'm pretty sure I'll never find a take-off fender, though I might get lucky and find a take off hood.

Anyway...thoughts on my options? How much should I expect to pay for a shop to spray the hood and fender if I put them on?

Fenders retail for less than $200 and the hood goes for $919, last time I checked.
So you really need to stay away from that shop!

Having said that, now would be the time to use an nicer looking aftermarket hood...
