Repainting
Its not time yet, but I am curious...what would it cost to repaint my car, with a quality job? Also, what are your opinions on repainting a car a different color from original color?
I'm sure Pascal will jump in here but if I remember right it should run you around 5K+ for a quality job. As far as changing the color goes, my opinion is, "Why not?" If you going to put out that kind of cash get something you want. The only issue is there is alot more work and cost "if" you want a quality job to where you can't tell the car was not that color to start with.
The issue with repainting the entire vehicle a new color, if you're looking for a quality job, is every door jamb, the inner trunk, under hood and even the inner fenders need repainted to match, or else it's going to look shoddy. All that extra work is really going to drive up the cost of the paint job... It's not unheard of to repaint a vehicle a different color, but if I were in your shoes (which I am), I'd go with the same color with maybe some stripes or a two-tone if you want to stand out.

Without the jams of the car its usually around 5-7k, with jams you could be looking at as much as 10k. I agree that its easier to stick to the stock color and not have the jams redone compared to having every part of the car repainted in a different color.
Yep 5-7+ for a QUALITY paintjob with a new color. It would cost about 5K tops if it's the same color repaint.
In a new color they have to strip out almost everything to get to all the nooks and crannies. That add labor $$$ to the job.

There are a few variants...
If you're going red, it'll be more than $5K for the simple reason that red paint costs 2 to 3 times more than any other color.
A pint of Dupont Chromabase in red is about $70 but $30 in black.
To do a whole car with jambs, trunk area and under hood, you'll need a gallon of base coat.
Now, for the engine bay, there is no way to do a good job without yanking the engine out and all the cr@p that's bolted on the aprons etc...
Talk about labor cost here...
If you start with a black car, you can get away with leaving it black under the hood.
Any other color will look too funky if it remains untouched.

You can also save yourself a ton of cash if you do as much of the work yourself as possible. Seriously, with one single wrench, you could probably save yourself $500 by removing parts so the painters don't have to. Multiply that by a few wrenches and BAM! 2k saved!
I had people do that before.
Customers bringing their cars stripped to my shop, so all I had to do is body work and paint.
I don't mind that at all, speeds up the job for me.
Putting a car together takes a lot longer than taking it apart...
