A pint of Dupont Chromabase in red is about $70 but $30 in black.
To do a whole car with jambs, trunk area and under hood, you'll need a gallon of base coat.

Now, for the engine bay, there is no way to do a good job without yanking the engine out and all the cr@p that's bolted on the aprons etc...
Talk about labor cost here...
If you start with a black car, you can get away with leaving it black under the hood.
Any other color will look too funky if it remains untouched.
pascal I've heard that the reason red paint is more expensive is because of gold pigment being in the paint. Is that true?

Not to hijack, buttttttt
Pick up this months HotRod and see the vehicle
they wrapped in 3M vinyl for a spectacular,
totally reversable result that lasts 5 years or more.
Unwrap and your original paint is there in all its glory
just as it was when it was wrapped.

Not to take away your bread and butter or anything like that, Pascal. he he he

I'll be retired before it has an effect on me anyway...
I'm actually shifting my business away from body work to parts exportation.
In 5 years or so, I'll be working on my own cars only.
