Default LED Third Brake Light

Does anyone have an LED Third Brake Light for an '08 Mustang?

American Muscle has one but it is only available for '05-'07.

Ninosports offers one for an '05-'09, but then states that Ford made a change that causes the LEDs to stay on even when the foot pedal is released on '08-'09.

I was hoping to get a smoked 3rd brake light to match the rest of my lights. I know I could tint the light and it is cheaper, but I would prefer to change out the assembly, and have the brighter LED lights.

Have you contacted AM to see if they have a kit for your '08? I'd think they'd have solved that problem by including a resistor to load the circuit so the LED's can fake out the SJB.

If it's simply a brighter light you need for the 3rd brake light, look into the Sylvania Silverstar 921ST lamp. It's supposedly 30% brighter than the standard 921 bulb. I put one in my g/f's '06 since she has the "MUSTANG" overlay on her 3rd brake light lens and needed more light. It did the trick.

LED 3rd Brake Light Problem

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello all. I recently purchased a LED 3rd Brake Light for my 07 GT. When I installed it, it worked great when you depress the brake pedal (as it should) However, when not depressing the brake pedal, the LEDs remain dimly lit at all times. I called the vendor that I purchased it from and they told me it was defective and sent me a new one. As soon as it arrived I installed it and I have the same issue. It works, but like I said, the LED's remain dimly lit at all times.

solution below:
I actually spoke to someone today that had the same issue. The fix was to install an in-line resistor. Apparently the LED's draw such a low amount of power (unlike a standard bulb) that they stay dimly lit from the constant "hot" source (unlike a standard bulb). So, the resistor actually prevents the LED's from drawing power (constant dimly lit) until the voltage is increased when you depress the brake pedal. It was a 4.99 item

That explains why my LED tailights burned out.

Does anyone know what type of resistor needs to be put inline?

The LEDS dont draw enough current.
A 7 ohm 20 watt resistor will fix that.
[b] Paralell the resistor inline, not in series.
Pep Boys or Auto Zone.
They only have one type there.
The correct type.
