I have gotten one of those tickets many moons ago. I was even told the clear ones are illegal. I guess "anything" in front of the plate is what the law is/was here. I never looked into it. Just removed it at called it a day.

ya same rules here to on those... she said anything that is placed in front of or used to obscure the plate is considered a ticketable offense

I dont have a spot now to put a front plate on, and there's no way I will be drilling into my bumper! Knock on wood 4 1/2 years never had an issue. I think it might be since I am bordering a state that does not require front plates, the cops here don't look for that reason to stop you.

ya you are probably getting over looked, i would rather take a ticket rather than drill into an aftermarket bumper

I live next to a state that doesn't require a front plate too but that doesn't stop the cops around here from giving you a ticket.

If you ever get caught, put one of these on. Then in the future if you are pulled again, you can flip the switch and out comes your plate;

I don't know about Illinois, Stoenr, but in CA I believe that a front plate is not required if the manufacturer of your bumper does not have a place for designated for it. That's why a lot of luxury cars don't have theirs on
