I have gotten one of those tickets many moons ago. I was even told the clear ones are illegal. I guess "anything" in front of the plate is what the law is/was here. I never looked into it. Just removed it at called it a day.

ya same rules here to on those... she said anything that is placed in front of or used to obscure the plate is considered a ticketable offense

I dont have a spot now to put a front plate on, and there's no way I will be drilling into my bumper! Knock on wood 4 1/2 years never had an issue. I think it might be since I am bordering a state that does not require front plates, the cops here don't look for that reason to stop you.

If you ever get caught, put one of these on. Then in the future if you are pulled again, you can flip the switch and out comes your plate;

I don't know about Illinois, Stoenr, but in CA I believe that a front plate is not required if the manufacturer of your bumper does not have a place for designated for it. That's why a lot of luxury cars don't have theirs on
