Cup holder bezel
I got a cup holder bezel for my 08 Mustang GT. The bezel was on the console for about 48 hours before I went on a weekend getaway about 400 miles away. My wife and I found out the bezel looked great but only made a VERY limited space in the Mustang even more limited.....drinks (for two persons) were limited to one drink holder...and it would hold a medium drink at McD's.
Now I'm going to sell a cupholder bezel on Ebay!!

I love mine, as it adds to the other interior trim I've installed in the car. I can't say I've noticed what you describe, but then again it's rare for there to be a drink in my car. Even when it happens, it's only me using it to hold a drink from the drive-through as I'm headed back to work.
I'm guessing you may have a auto. I couldn't tolerate using the drink holder much anyway, as its really in the way when changing gears in a manual.

The MGW bezel is notorious for this...the key word "notorious." So as a new member to the Forum "Welcome!...to the search function."
As a known problem with the MGW item, other manufacturers have come out with their own bezels that are thinner, allowing you to retain the use of both cup holder spaces. If I recall, Silver Horse Racing (same outfit that makes the BEST rear quarter louvers) has bezels that are like this.
FWIW, I have the MGW as well (got it before SHR came out with theirs), and you just learn to live with it. (Then you pay the car off early, retire her, and make her into a track *****!...where cup holders are not a concern.)
Best,
