Default Pix of M205/Wet Diamond results on my Black Stang

This is my car after I did my usual Maguires M205 polish with a Porter Cable 7424 and a Tangerine Lake Country Hydrotech pad. Then followed with BlackFire Wet Diamond on a Blue Finishing Pad, also with the DA.

I'd given some detailing advice before on here, but didn't really have any pix to back up my abilities, so here you go. . . .

And this one is to just show off my VHT tint job on my Tails. I polished them a little more after this pic, but you get the idea...

got any links to a step by step tutorial (with pictures) on how to get a black car looking nice? my Expy has suffered from the past year out here in the Salt & volcano mist. I want to get the black looking good.

amazing job

Not really a toutorial, but look at the thread in my sig about washing it properly to prevent damage.

Then you want to mask off all the trim, etc.

Polish the car with a good DA buffer like a porter Cable 7424. You want to use a medium cutting pad like a Lake country hydrotech cyan pad with some aggressive polish such as Maguires M105 or Ultimate compound first if the paint is bad.

You work in small sections and move slowly applying pressure, enough to crush the pad but not enough to stall the rotation of the buffer. Set it on 4 or 5 speed

Set up some good lights like halogen work lights so you can see when the scratches and swirls are removed.

Then using the same technique go back over the car with a finishing polish like Maguires M205 with a fine cutting pad like the Lake country hydrotech tangerine pad.

Once you have all the swirls and scratches out (pull it out in the sun to make sure) then use a finishing pad like a Lake country black or blue fine finishing pad to apply wax or sealant (whichever you want)

Use no pressure and light coats for the wax or sealant. Set on 3-4 speed for this.

All polish and waxes or sealants should be removed using a microfiber towel, never use a buffer to remove wax.

And that's it in a nutshell.

You can go on YouTube and find videos on how to buff to get an idea of the speed you need be going to be effective.

thanks. I have a Sears thing that is about worthless. Spent $40 on it and realized the 1st time out of the box it wasn't going to do the job.

i've used Meguirs 3 step restoration before on my old black SUV that had several years of waterspots...but my arms were so dead after only 1/2 of the vehicle that I can't quite muster up the nerve to fix my Expy.

guess I should grab one of those Porter orbitals I keep hearing about

Yeah, you can't really do anything unless you have a really good buffer. I think the PC is the best bang for the buck, IMO You're looking at about $200 for everything to at least get started well
