HIDs flicker when engine is running??????? HELP
Okay, so I'm now pulling my hair out! Got the headlight HIDs all fitted, they look great. However, went to take the car out last night to see how they look while driving and when I start the car up and once running and then turning on the HIDs, they flicker! They don't flicker when the car is not switched on?
I would imagine this is some sort of voltage issue.... However, how do I increase the voltage to the car?
The battery is brand new and holding a high voltage (looking at the dash gauge... Reads almost 3/4)
Any ideas? If not I'm gonna have to go back to stock lights and return the HIDs
Thanks in advance

What brand HID did you purchase? My first instinct is to double check your connections. Duh, I'm sure you have done that tho. Check your ground connection. Where did you connect the black wires? If there is more than one ground from separate ballasts, make sure you ground them all to the same spot. Also check that the ground is a clean connection, scrape off paint, tight screw, etc. Historically this kind of thing has been a problem with car audio, and can cause noise in the system. To me it sounds like your getting noise from the alternator. Maybe even one of those audio filters in line on the positive feed to the HID ballasts.
I bet it looks sweet when they are on tho!

Do you have DRLs? Or auto-on headlights? If so you need a relay harness. Me personally I don't have any of those features and mine were plug and play, my step dad's harley davidson F150 has DRLS and auto-ons and they did the same thing, a relay harness fixed it.

Contact the manufacturer. This doesn't sound like an issue with your car's charging system. And since you think you need to "increase the voltage to the car", I strongly suggest you don't touch anything until you get professional advice.
Thanks everyone, I checked all connections... Everything fine. polarity etc. I just don't understand why they work when the engine is off but flicker when the ignition is on and engine running! I don't have auto on lights or DRLs..... And have no idea what UDPs are!
I have removed everything and returned to stock for the time being. I bought the HIDs through the HIDGUY..... But getting hold of that company seems very hit and miss, especially after the sale has been done.

Using either the capacitor method described in the links below, or again, a higher wattage resistor (load resistor) to keep a more consistent load going so the computer doesn´t get schizophrenic.
See here for reference. And here.
Few ebay sellers for ¨solutions¨ for this issue, and I´m sure there are others that would have in-line solutions as well, if you want it prettier and more expensive.

Did you purchase the ¨relay harnesses¨ when you got this? As I recall from that site, they have a disclaimer that states you will have problems if you do not get these with it. Quite likely this is a relay with a capacitor done for you for this very issue.

It is likely the computer dicking with it while running. Much in the same vein as installing LED flashers/brake-lights for some units without a load resistor. You can likely fix the issue with $1.50 from radio shack.

You can thank me later...
