I think it would be in both your best interests to work around the insurance companies. Get his information none the less, but be like "Hey, here's the prices on the parts that need replaced."
If you go through insurance, your car is going to crucified with a "damaged/repaired" title, and his rates will go up. So, for that reason he may want to work with you as well....
And with MSRP prices like that, you should be able to get whatever aftermarkets you like

I'm actually at the collision place now. How would I go about having the insurance company just cut me a check for the parts? Is there any way to make sure that happens? I figured they would rather track the work and look at it themselves so they know I'm not trying to commit insurance fraud. Thanks again, all the info is great.

YOu can have them issue you a check and be done with it but if you do that and you take your car to a shop and you are not happy with their repair work, too bad, so sad. It's between you and the repair company at that point.
With regard to diminished value because an accident shows up. You can ask for a dimished value reiumbursement. Basically the insurance company takes the value of the vehicle in its original condition and the value in its repaired condition. They take the difference of those and cut you a check for "diminished value"
You are basically getting reimbursed what you would lose when you go to sell the car because of the previous damage. I don't think you can do that unless you go through insurance for everything. If they cut you a check and call it good, they do not have to even consider it.

Ok, that makes sense. I'm hoping they'll be able to cut me a check so I can go about getting some nice aftermarket parts to personalize her a little more. The only thing that worries me is if the hinge/mount is damaged or bent. Then is have to take it to a body shop anyway. His insurance company is Travelers BTW. I kind of like the look of the AM retro headlights anyway, maybe ill sell the factory HID lights.

Update. The insurance adjuster came out today, and it looks like I'll be getting a check for $4352.12. I think I'll get the TruCarbon A29 hood and a CF deck lid panel, and then about $2000 of things from AM including halo head/fog lights and an intake and tune combo. Anything else you think MUST be done to my car while I have this chance? Thanks for all your help.
