Default Quarter Window Swap

Hello all,

I'm shopping for an S197. Haven't owned one before, and I'm new to Mustangs and still doing research to get my selection criteria figured out.

I came up with a question I can't seem to find an answer to: how easy is it to swap from no quarter windows to quarter windows?

I'm not set on getting a hardtop car, but If I end up with one I would want quarter glass for when the kids are in the back.

It looks like all cars have a cutout in the unibody there which is filled with a window delete panel/louvers or the window. Would it be possible for one to remove the delete panels themselves and have an auto glass shop install the windows without bodywork? Then on the inside, is there a windowed and windowless version of the interior panel that goes there that I would have to source and replace?

Thanks

Most of the window delete is simply a cover over the window that is held on with 3M 2 sided tape. So you can pull the covers off and have the windows exposed.

Is no quarter glass even a factory option, or are the "windowless" cars I'm seeing just modified like you described?

They are all modified by the owner after market. Ford did not build Mustangs with a window delete option. When you see the window louvers you can look inside and the window is still there.

It was possible to order a Shelby modification that covered the window with a metal plate, but even those I believe still have the window under them.

The only Mustangs where there isn't the regular window is where it was replaced by the louvered style window. That is direct replacement that some cars will have. But it was a rare modification, most are simply fiberglass panels placed over the window. And it was done by the owner after market, not from Ford.
