This bugs the crap outta me....
Recently I put an Alpine IVA-D300 touchscreen DVD player into the stang. The installer warned me that because the Alpine was self-powered (with the head unit), and the Shaker 500 sound system had amplification, that it would pop upon startup. So here is the dilemma, everytime I turn on the unit, it pops really loudly. I am concerned because 1.) it is extremely annoying (not to mention it scares my passengers when they are unsuspecting it), 2.) sounds as though it may blow the speakers, and C.) it is REALLY annoying. Do you guys know of a way around this? Can you bypass the Shaker and still utilize the speakers? I am not very knowledgable when it comes to audio technology. Anything would help. Thanks.
P.S. I plan on getting that Scoshe box and replacing the sub with a 12' JL and powering it with an Alpine amp. If I do so, and get an amp big enough to power the speakers as well, can I get rid of this loud popping. Thanks guys.

The wire that is the "amp on" wire coming from your head unit is +12V. The Ford amps expect +7V for signal on voltage.
Go to Radio Shack. Buy a LM7805 voltage regulator. Pull the head unit back out. Cut the amp on wire and attach it to the input of the LM7805. The output goes to the other side of the wire you just cut, and the remaining leg goes to ground.
Volia, no more amp popping.

Hawgman was kind enough to share that advice with me before I installed mine and it worked 100% perfect!! Thanks again Hawgman. By the way, the not so smart guy at my Radio Shack could not figure it out by the part number. I had to find it myself. Here is the number that they can find it with easier - Catalog #: 276-1770 .

RE: This bugs the crap outta me....
I went to Radioshack today and purchased the regulator. In reviewing the Alpine owner's manual, I do not see an "amp out" line from the head unit. All I see is a "remote turn on" line (blue/white wire) coming from the tuner box, not from the head unit/monitor. I am assuming that when the shop installed the system, they connected this blue/white to the Shaker 500 amp. Does this sound right to you guys? Is this the wire that needs the regultor installed in-line? Thanks in advanced.
