Whatsup with my average MPG?

Whatsup with my average MPG?
Hey all. I just recently got my car. So far, she has about 160 miles on her and for some reason, my average is only 8.5MPG and 9MPG at most.
Is this something to worry about? I don't race it and I don't go nuts on it. Lately to help bring the number higher, I've been driving only to 2K RPM max and then shifting.
How do I raise this or is there something wrong with my car? OH, I live in Queens NY and there is a lot of stop and go traffic. But still, I don't thnk I deserve such a low number.

Reset the mpg average. Mine was really low like that when I first got it. Now I am getting 15-15.5 average pure city driving, with a fair amount of getting on it.

I reset it once but still. How many miles you got? could it also be my driving? I just learned how to drive a stick but I doubt it.

Hmm.... On the highy, I've driven her 100MPH so far... then today, I did 80MPH on a non-busy street but I normally keep it under 3K RPM at all times. I admit, I did give the car to my uncle to test drive the first day I got her and he did some wheel spin at high RPM's... I couldn't say anything.... uncle.. older.. respect.. u know all that crap that comes with you giving your keys away while you sit on hte passenger side holding on for dear life? lol....

BTW, I just read page 5 of my manual. It does say not to drive at same speeds for the first 1000 miles (speeds vary 100% of the time, so I have no idea what they are talking about).
It doesn't, however, mention anything about a manual transmission. What page are you reading?
