CRAP! Just ground first gear!
Started my car as normal, and 99% of the time I leave my car in first gear. Went to go and started to let the clutch out, but went no where. So dummy me, with the clutch half out, I tried to put it in to first. GRIND! DAMN! It was only for a split second. I have no clue what happened. I think I remember seeing it out of the corner of my eye the shifter move back on its own, but I cant be sure.
WTH happened?

the same exact thing has happened to me. apparently, if you dont let out the clutch before starting off, when you put it in first it could not have gone all the way in. sometimes it needs like an extra little click to be all the way in position, it seems like this is when ive had the clutch in for a while, my guess being that the synchro has stopped spinning, or the clutch, or w/e, and first gear doesnt go all the way in as easily, and of course that terribly embarassing grind follows. just my $.02, i could easily be wrong.
I ground the crap out of 4th in he first week I had the car on the highway going like 60 cause my hand slipped off the shifter halfway through the motion and I still wasnt used to the shifter as its a LOT different from my old Focus, it doesnt seem like anything was damaged, it still shifts and accellerates just fine, of course now I just make sure it doesnt happen again. From what I read the engine and transmission on the V6 are tough as they come so I think we'll be ok if we make one or two mistakes.
I have grinded I think each gear at least once. Unless I'm getting on it I tend to have a light touch. So as soon as I feel the teeth grind I let off the pressure. I think unless you are trying to force it into gear and grinding in the process it should be OK. The transmissions are pretty tough and are designed to take a bit of misfortune.
Hey, rounded gears go together better anyways.

Doubtful, if our transmissions are that weak, I'm never buying North American again. The only thing that I've ever done that sounded like I "Hurt" my baby was when I took it to the limiter (150 mph), kind of sounded a little funny on the way home after that, but it sorted itself out. Could have just been me being paranoid though.
