Default Aftermarket wheels for 06 Mustang

OK, all you Mustang experts, here's one for you.

I am seriously looking at purchasing an 06 Mustang GT. However, it must be capable of accepting my favorite or 2nd favorite wheel of all time. That would be the American Racing Torq Thrust D or Torq Thrust Original. American Racing has stated that the Torq Thrust D will not fit and I guess I can accept that because the largest dia. it is offered in is a 16" (the 06 Mustang has 17" wheels) & the offset will make the tire stick out too far.

However, they also say that the 17" Torq Thrust Orig will also not fit. They, of course, want to minimize their liability so the wheel may, in reality, fit. I looked at 06 Mustang GT this weekend and it appears that the part of the brakes that is the most likely candidate for interference is the brake line to the caliper..........and it looks like it clears the inside dia of the stock wheel by about 1/4". I have asked American Racing for the dia of the inside of the back of the TT Orig wheel to determine if it is close enough to clearing that I could modify the brake line to accomodate the wheel.

Has anyone had any experience mounting American Racing Torq Thrust Orig. wheels to an 06 Mustang? I need info from you if you have.

And yes, I know, the stock wheel is very much like the TT D/TT Orig but I'm **** about the wheels and tires.

Bud

P.S.- American Racing has responded w/ a drawing of the TT Orig where the outline of the 05/06 Mustang calipers are shown. It is very close, .070 nominally at the lower corner of the caliper. So of course mfg tolerances could eat up that clearance. So, I wonder how much I could grind off the caliper casting w/o getting in trouble? Anybody care to comment?

Same as above except for 255 & 295 Nitto 555 tires. These were a special order from American Racing. 360.00 each . Good luck!

Where did did you find a 295/40-18 Nitto?

The only 295 I can find is a Falken RT-615 in 295/40-18.

Reply soon since I'm running this second set of BFGs thin.

You're right, there are no 40's .I had to go with 295-45's. They are a bit taller but fill the wheelwell up. There seems to be enough room for lowered cars too.

Thanks for the info.

I may go with the Nittos, but like the tread on the Falkens (No one has them...yet).
I'm getting tired of the BFG KDW2s and are my second set of all four (bought wheels Jan 05).
Liked the tread pattern since they were unique.
A 305/40 would be great but are only avail in a drag radial (not good for me @ 130mi a day roundtrip commute).
