Side Airbags - Worthwhile Option?
I am about to order an 06 GT Vert. I noticed that almost all of the Mustangs on my dealer's lot do not have side airbags included with their optional equipment.
Regardless of possible insurance premium savings, I am of the mind that if one is going to spend this much money on a car it makes sense to "spring" for the added protection of the side airbags. Opinions?

Yes definitely. Verts, to begin with, aren't the safest cars around - you lose all the protection of the canopy. I specifically ordered an 06 GT vert, rather than bought off the lot, for two reasons - a manual transmission and side airbags (tough combination to find).
If you ever get T-Boned and seriously injured....you will wonder if the side air bag would have protected you. If you get killed, then your family will wonder if it could have saved your life.
Get the airbags.
Get the airbags.

Actually, I think this is well put. The cost is marginal compared to what could happen w/o them. And if you decide to sell it later, it will be more marketable with this option (which itself is showing up w/increasing regularity as standard equipment on new cars).
When you think of all the money we put (or are willing to put) into our rides to increase the "fun factor" you shouldn't blink twice about putting up the meager funds for this sort of safetly item.

I just placed an order (will post details in another thread), and I decided to get them. I have little kids who will soon be sitting in the front seat, and if I cheaped out and something bad happened how could I live with myself?
I have side airbags in other cars and aside from a plastic "airbag" panel on the side of the seat, you can't tell.

The side airbags are in the side of the seat backs, not the door panels. I have them, wanted them. With the vert, and the neverending plethora of crappy mini-van moms and incessantly yakking cell phone users out there, it's worth the price to have that little bit extra. It's the one option you hope you'll never use, but may be the one that you need the most. It kind of irked me that they didn't come standard...
Also, I don't know if you can count on an "extra" savings for the side airbags from your insurance carrier. My rates were decent anyways, but my carrier only cared that the car had airbags, not how many or where... no bonus for me.
