Police Stangs
Hey. Live in SC and received a picture of a new mustang getting striped up for serice as a SC Highway Patrol car yesterday. I imagine it will hit the road next week! There are a few counties in SC that have them along with a couple 04 Mach's

The good thing about them using our cars now is that we will know the headlight config so they are easier to spot in the rearview. I had a 1990 5.0 and the Highway Patrol in So. Cal had them then too....It was super easy to spot them.

How do you tell from the headlight configuration whether its a patrol car or just another Mustang?

You don't really....back in 1990 when I knew every CHP had a 5.0 I knew that there was a good chance that those "eyes" in my rearview could be a cop...I'd slow up and then would see the lightbar and would confirm. After a while I got pretty good at seeing the outline of the lightbar from farther away, distinguishing it from regular cars. That's all... better to slow up when you see headlights like yours in your rearview than keep gunning it if you are speeding.
The GT police cars by me are not marked at all and have the lights in the dash and look like a completely normal Mustang until the lights are turned on and flashing. I've seen a blue one and a brown one so far, they look great.
I live in Charleston SC Chas. County has three City of Chas has two (all are standard black and whites) three more in suburban cities. So far all are marked but none have lightbars. I had one pass me on the interstate the other day with all lights going, they were all over the car. In the grill, on the dash, headlights alternated, back window, in the tail lights, and on the side mirrors. This one was from a suburban city called Hanahan and was white with a black side stripe and emblem on the door. If it came up behind you there is nothing that would let you know it wasn't just another Stang. OH...and it had one of those "british" style sirens that just alternated a high-low pitch. I wonder if Ford is offering an Interceptor package for the Stang? MAN..would I love to get my hands on one and mothball it if they do.
