When I fill up my new Mustang when the gas pump cuts off the gas spills out all over the place...

 

It's normal... Don't 'top off' the car. Though sometimes yes it does click off and it'll still over flow.. What happens is the overflow goes into a tube which hits the ground. So not only are you losing gas but you're losing money. Only some gas stations do this also, others don't... You just have to find one that doesn't do it, or fill it up manually and just guesstimate.

 

The 05 had a service bulletin on tank vent problems. The tank is replaced to fix it.
