Single Point Jacking

OK, Hawgman, where did you get the diagram? I want to blow this up and post it on my garage wall for future reference...hehehe

As for jacking it up by the diff., two reasons why not to. One is obviously saftey. The other is you can actually cause your diff to leak.
had an '88 that started leaking after i jacked it up by the diff. bent the cover out a little.
it also warps the axle, the load of the car goes down the springs to the axle shaft near the wheels, the diff housing should never bear the weight of the car.
you may get away with it once (or a hundred times) but why take the chance of messing up your own car.
those ppl at the tire places don't care about your car, they just do what's easiest for them.
(that diagram is an ’04, but should be the same points on the S197)

I have lifted mine up in a few different places besides that and had no poblems structurally. Though I never tried to do more than one corner at a time and took my sweet time setting her up... I would have liked to have this picture around, just would have given me a little more confidence...

FYI, Hawgman is 90% BS 100% of the time. Or is it the other way around?
j/k lifting from a single point at the diff can cause flexing in the metal. Even if the jack point is not touching the cover you risk the flex that will cause a leak.

And depending on the conversation and who it is that I have insulted or pissed off at the time, some folks say that I have NEVER had anything nice to say or contributed in any way.... Of course the funny part about that is, it is usually someone that a week prior was thanking me for something.
This is great information and very timely as I just ordered a set of springs that I plan to install myself.
At the risk of asking dumb question...
How do you jack the rear of the car up, using a floor jack, to put it on jack stands considering the only jack points in the rear are to the outside edges?
