Not in Phoenix, but in Phila. PA I was quoted $2,700, this was including ducktail spoiler installation and clearing entire areas. hood, roof, decklid...etc. The hourly rate was about 48.00 this is a high end shop though that does street rod graphics and mixes custom paint.

$2700 sounds about average for any good shop.

I was thinking of getting the silver stripes on my black GT. Should I go with the paint or the factory stripes?

Fly,
I seen your post was in reply to me,I am the wrong one to ask as I am an 07 hold out,but I am thinking about getting them painted on myself.

The guy who works on my trucks and cars his Dad does auto painting and cheap also,I had my F-150 painted by him and cost me $1100 paint included,so stripes would be around $200+paint.

Point is I would maybe look around at some small guys or part timers, jsut becuse they don't have some big name shop does not mean there not good, for me I trust someone who has been doing it for 40 some years over some big name thats been doing it for 10 years or so.Most of the older folk are cheaper also.

On the flip side I have known the family for years and know I trust them, heck I bought a used Disco II,not the nearst Land Rover dealer is over 90 miles away, but when I asked him if he could work on them he said he never did but would buy what he needs,he bought over 10 grand in equipment to fix it and work on it when it needs it,small family owned business gota love em.

So you need to kinda feel them out a little first to see if they would do a good job or go to a big time paint shop and pay 3 grand, but you know there gonna do a good job for that kinda money.

First of all there are no factory stripes. There are dealer added accessory stripes in vinyl. Or you can have an independent vinyl installer do it. That runs 400-600 for most.
When it comes to painting them on, figure it is 40 -50 hours labor to do good stripe job. They do not just paint stripes over your existing paint. It is a long process of wet-sanding, measuring, masking, painting and clearcoating. Then more wet-sanding and buffing.
You cannot get that done for 200.00 unless someone is just giving over a weeks labor away because you are there bro or something.
Any serious bodyman/painter would want 2000-2700 and it will look a world better than vinyl over your paint.
No edges on the stripes and a deeper clearcoat with no "orange-peel" effect.
The factory clearcoat has a lot of orangepeel, and good painters block-sand that out and buff to achieve a smoother finish.

All of the body shops in my area, including the ones who specialize in restorations and custom work, have given similar quotes in the $1200-$1500 range, for painted, sanded, and clear coating. Haven't taken the dive yet, but I'm wondering why there would be such a huge difference price-wise.

Thanks, I guess the paint sounds alot better. If its gonna be that much, I think I'll wait until after I get a few more important upgrades like CAI, and exhaust. Thanks for the input though guys.

I had vinyl and ditched it in favor of paint. My painter took the car apart so there would be no tape off lines in the seams. You can't feel the stripes at all. Car is smooth. Total cost with Glassurit (very, very expensive) clear coat was $1800. After the job was done he said he would not bid less than $3000 to do the same job again.
