The FRPP gear set comes with a new pinion nut, crush sleeve and pinion shims. You should also get a new rear pinion bearing. You will need a shim assorment for the carrier to set the backlash properly. You will need 3 quarts of synthetic 75/90 gear lube and friction additive. I used the ford lube and additive even though it cost more. There are others that are a little cheaper. A front seal isn't really needed unless it is damaged during the pinion removal which is rare. If you had high miles, then it would be good to go ahead and change it. That is all that you will need, and the rear end is an 8.8", and the gears and pinion are all the same for an 8.8" rear differential.

Now all you need is a good installer!
Thanks MusiccityGT.. that was the info I was after.. the installer is typing this...lol I have worked on cars for 20+ years.. but never a Ford rear end.. can't be that much differnet... lol

Glad I could help! It is very similiar to a g.m. rear end for the most part. Just be certain of the preload at 25 inch pounds if you use a new bearing 15 with and old, and get your depth and run-out/backlash correct. And for goodness sake, don't get the additive on you, It stinks to the high heavens for days! LOL....

Thanks again.. when you said similiar to a GM .. then I knew I could 100% for sure due the job now...!!! I don't think I am going to use a new bearing as the car only has 700 miles on her now..
yeah gear oil stinks BAD.. been there done that .. the additive does also

thanks again .. you guys are great.. two thumbs up...!!!!!

I actually bought the Motive gears from one of our sponsors and my drivetrain guy refused to install them stating they were not tracking properly (and thus would whine). Sent 'em back, ordered a set of FRPP gears, they went together easily and overall I couldn't be happier!

Rex, did mine last week, pretty staight forward and no problems. Ended up using all the original shims and it was set-up perfect. I've heard from more than a few that's the way it usually goes when you use the Ford gears. Worked out for me.
Here's my parts list and I didn't need anything else.

1 F3TZ-4630-A Cone (pinion bearing) 30.29
1 F3TZ-4628-A Cup (pinion bearing cup) 17.10
1 B7A-4662-A Spacer pinion (extra crush sleeve just in case) 11.04
1 F89Z-4676-AA Seal (Again, just in case) 22.23
2 XY-75W140-QL Synthetic gear lube 49.12
2 XL-3 Friction modifier additive 13.28
1 Tube black or gray RTV
2 Cans brake clean

Meaure the old pinion head with calipers, if it's the same as the new pinion (mine was) use the original spacer. If it's different do the math to determine the spacer size.

Definitely worth the effort.

I'd like to hear the answers to the question by "Stewart" about RPM's and would also be interested in how much money you had to fork up for gears and labor..??

+1 How big is the jump in acceleration between the two? How will top speed be affected?

~2350 in 5th with 3.73s. ~2595 in 5th with 4.10s. Compared to ~2245 with stock gears.

With 4.10's (and lots of other stuff) I am at 2900 rpm in 5th gear @ 65 mph. I have a very aggressive set-up and the norm should be about 2200-2600 rpm in 5th @ 65 mph. The Ford's seem to be tried and proven and I would go with them IMO. I have heard many complaints about the motives and 0 on the the ford. In my personal experience, next to a predator or sct tune, the gear change has been the most dramatic increase in performance for the money and should be on your priority upgrade list from stock IMO.
