Does "Failsafe Mode" put out an engine code?
When the car goes into failsafe mode, does it put out an engine code? Mine went into failsafe mode, and I want to know if I will be able to determine what caused it by hooking up an engine code reader?
Thanks!
Thanks!
It should. The code for the actual failsafe is 2104, Throttle actuator - forced idle. The other code often assosciated is 2112, which is Throttle actuator stuck closed. That could either be from the actual failsafe condition itself, or a code indicating the reason for the problem. If there is no other code assosciated with it, then it is likely a T/B related issue that caused the failsafe to begin with.
what did you change on your car like the intake or anything like that cause when i put my C&L on my maf wasn't snapped on all the way and slipped off kicking it into failsafe mode took me a week to figure it out
I installed an intake when I first got it and it went for several months without any trouble. After I installed my Borla axle-backs, I have gotten 3 failsafe modes in 2 weeks. I doubt that an axle-back exhaust system can cause a failsafe mode. I'm thinking it has something to do with the throttle actuator since I've already made sure that nothing has come loose on the intake.
Hmmm... You say you installed a CAI, but NOT a tune, correct? I would pretty much bet your a/f mixture is throwing the failsafes. The advertised cai with no tune needed is not exactly a true statement. You already introduced more air into the engine and then you freed up the exhaust. Bet you are running lean!
Yeah, I was thinking about that also, but I didn't think that axle-backs would free up the exhaust enough to make the engine run lean. It must be the combo of the intake and exhaust. It only goes into failsafe mode when I'm just cruizing at normal speed and not when I 'm really hitting the gas. A tuner from Doug was going to be my next mod anyway, so I guess I'll have to see if that cures it. Thanks for all your help!
YEAH I WOULD SAY THE SAME A TUNE IS A MUST .. DOES WONDERS FOR EVERYTHING.. I INSTALLED CUSTOM X TO TWISTERS DUMPED BEFORE THE AXLE.. SAVEN UP SOME MONEY TO GET SOME HEADERS AND TAKE OFF THE STOCK CATS..
It actually makes perfect sense. The spanish oak at a cruise is in closed loop which means the short term A/F control is constanly adjusting for immediate cirumstance and with the exhaust and intake it is getting a wild reading and shutting down the car. It basically freaks the computer out and it says "oh sh*t" and shuts you down. At wide open throttle, the processor is in open loop and depending on the pre set parameters and ignores the info coming from the o2 sensors. This is when damage occurs because it is not going to shut you down like it will in closed loop.
Blaa blaa blaa....I hope that makes sense.
