Default Do you hate your long antenna?

For those who are considering getting a shorter antenna I recommend the shorty antenna (8ā€) from mustangtuning.com. I just put it on a few days ago and it is amazing. Much better looking than the 400 foot one it originally comes with. Plus, the reception is still crystal clear. I live in a city so I cant vouch for the reception in more rural areas.

And yes, I know I need to wash the car. I’m going to wash it right now.

Actually, I'm gonna get one of those long CB Type whips, and rainbow arch it back to my spoiler where I'll hold it down with a zip-tie. When I leave it up, I'll put a red tennis ball on it, to match the paint. Ya Hooooooooooooooooooooooo !!!!!
Will that little antanae pick up illegal mexican stations in Tucson ?????

Plus, the reception is still crystal clear. I live in a city so I cant vouch for the reception in more rural areas.
Your car's radio antenna is approximately 31 inches for a very very good reason--31" is the quarterwave length for 98MHz on your FM dial--the midpoint of the FM dial. The gain at 98MHz on that 31" monople antenna is 3db, and then slightly less for 88MHz and 108MHz. Just for the record, 3db ain't much of a gain to start with--good antennas (like for your TV) can have gains as high as 30db!

Just remember changing its length drastically will impair your reception in non urban areas. If you live way out in the country don't shorten your antenna length unless you want to kill your reception.

You folks should have grown up with those damn in the windshield GM antennas. Most of us that knew better either had a car with the 31" monopole on it or we put one on our GM vehicle to improve reception--this was in the mountains of N. Georgia, which is approximately 70-100+ miles from the "good" Atlanta stations. The only ones in the windshield that would work, were in GM pickups where the front windshield was basically straight upward.

Hope this helps. If anyone wants to know more about this, holler back, I still know a little of my physics and EE!

Mike
I routinely drive 300-500 miles away from any major urban area and my reception has not suffered at all with an 8 inch antenna for the stations I could usually pick up out there. I have noticed no degradation in signal or premature fading under any circumstances.

And by in the middle of nowhere, I mean between Midland and El Paso in the Pecos region as well as Big Bend.

If I ever changed my antenna I would go with the 14" Antenna from mustangtuning, because the 8" is just way to much for me. You'll be getting people asking why is your antenna so short? Either way lol, I don't want to lose signal although I do with it was lined up with the roof. I think that would set the flow of the car perfectly without making it look aftermarket.
