Default How accurate is INFO?

How accurate are the numbers that show in the INFO display for Average MPG and speed?

I have a 2006 GT, 5-spd with 1050 miles. I get MPG readings of 13 - 14 MPG always. I think I drive conservatively, (shift at about 2500 - 3000 depending) Does this seem normal - what do you get?

Also my average speed is like 21 MPH even thoug I drive a mix of highway (70+) and city.

I have reset several times. Anyone have the same or different results - is this at all accurate?

Thanks for any feedback

i think its kinda bogus...

i was sittin in my driveway with it started just messin around with my music, and i looked up and my MPG was going down .1 every second... i was like 8.3 mpg before i started moving, in which case it went back up to 12. then i got up to 50 at the top of a hill and let off the gas and reset it and was getting like 70 MPG

strange..

Stop resetting it. That is the problem. I cannot recall where i read it might have been another stang forum but it has been discovered that if you keep resetting it you are essentially clearing out all the memory and it has to start over which then makes it not accurate.

If you reset it while driving down the road, the first number that comes up will be the mileage you are getting at that instant. So if you are coasting yes it will show a very high number because the car is using very little fuel for the speed it is traveling. And yes it is going to go down if you are sitting still and the engine is running IT'S BURNING FUEL AND YOU AREN'T GOING ANYWHERE which equates to 0mpg.

It is accurate it calculates burned fuel vs distance traveled just like you would do on your own. When people say its not accurate because it calculates mileage the entire time the car is running, well how in the he** do you calculate mileage do you know how much fuel is burned when sitting still so you can leave that out of your calculations? No, you figure 10 gallons got me 220 miles (which includes idle time) = 22mpg.

I am stepping off my soap box now.

One of the cool INFO displays is the gallons used. I have not reset it and I have 9800 miles on the car and over 500 gallons used. Do the math, it is like 19 miles to the gallon.

Well,

From the responses, the MPG INFO seems pretty much useless...

I guess it's better to just use the miles traveled/gallons used to calculate. (after reseting both at the same time I assume...)

Thanks for all the feedback.

The MPG info should give you the same numbers as if you calculate miles/fuel used using the info center as the information is all coming from the same place. This should also be the same as what you could calculate manually, fuel used divided by mileage.

Hey Stangster06,
I get the same MPG as you and similar average MPH. I typically have a heavy foot between 2nd - 3rd...cause I like the exhaust sound. The more freeway driving I get on a tank the closer to about 17mpg I get. Never been over 22mpg (even on a full tank of freeway driving).

I did, however, notice better gas mileage after about 3000 mi or so. (I have 6500 now). Also...and others will totally disagree with me...but on one full tank of gas, the same driving I do every day back and forth to work, I turned of the TCS religiously and gained 2 more mpg. I swear that the TCS holds the car back unecessarily during regular driving (even while not breaking loose or taking off super quick).

Just my opinion....

I just got 24 MPG on a trip to Cheyenne and back with my GT at near 85MPH the whole way? How are you guys getting such horrible gas milage on the highway?

The INFO is actually quite accurate, but as many have said before it is constantly calculating it whenever the engine is running, no matter what you are doing. That is how you would calculate it yourself anyway since you do not know how much gas you would have burned while you were not driving.

I have left mine alone for almost 2,000 miles now and I show 21.1 MPG average over those miles. Looks good to me since my car is new (not completely broken in) and I spend most of my time on the freeway. I expect that number will go up a little as the parts wear in.

If you want to make yourself feel better or worse about the gas milage you are getting, then just hit the reset button more often.
