Grand Turismo, that's the first thing that I think of when I see GT. I think they use it on cars that could be entered in those long distance races, or LeMans and things like that.

According to the Ask the Experts Library, GT stands for Grand Touring. It originated with the Italian phrase Gran Tourismo, when describing a car that was more sporting in nature than the average car. In some cases, a GT car could have a standard engine and chassis, but a more sporty body like the Opel GT for example. In the case of your Mustang, it has the standard Mustang body, but an upgraded engine and suspension. In the strictest sense, a GT car is not a pure racing car, although there are "GT" classes in some forms of auto racing.

Grand Touring...

In the 50's there were endurance races which started in Italy and spread world wide, called "Gran Turismo" or Grand Touring Race. All the cars in the first race years were slightly modified street cars... as the years went by the official GT Cars evolved into true race bred cars. Eeach auto maker made a GT to run in the GT Races.. that changed a lot by the late 70's to where street cars no longer ran in the GT Race, but all the auto makers continue to use the GT monicer to signify performance.

All the things I learn here at Mustang forums. Lot's of it come from a man known as the "Professor".

Sometimes I feel like this is Mustang 101-103.

thanks Prof~ On this island, there is one professor, one Skipper(hawgman), lot's of Mister Howels(Chevykiller), a ginger or two and a Maryann.

too bad there are so many "Gilligans" like me...

"Skipper!!! Skipper!!! Professor!!! Mister Howel!!!" we all seem to shout sometime or another.

And You always reply, (with the distain only a mid 70's comedic sitcom can Deliver)

"GILLIGAN!!!!!!!!!"
