another n00b question

there is some sort of device covered by what appears to be a skid plate in the underside of the car under the spare tire well. What is it? (I know it is not the blinker fluid reservoir

)

It is apparently the "fuel bundle," whatever the **** that is, covered by a "fuel bundle shield."
