K&N filter + tune

So weather and moisture in the air really do make a difference. Kind of like NASCAR.

this was one of my questions before buying, CAI & tune or just the tune... I was told without the CAI the gains would be about half then if i'd do both. True i'd get rid of the throttle lag and iron out some stock tunes trouble areas, I wouldn't get the same gain as if having the CAI. My choice was C&L CAI and xcal2
My combo came from evolution performance
C&L xcal2 93 tune... Everyday is like coming out of a cannon. Can lay a little rubber in drive however in low "good god" buy stock in goodyear!

Ford left alot of hp and torque on the table in an attempt to keep the driveline in one piece. With that said there is a world of differnce between stock and a good intake and tune. I went with Tuneable Inductions CAI, SCT 2, and off-road h-pipe from pypes. I couldn't be happier, this combo really brought the car to life. I think the tune, with reduced torque limiting is the best part of it all.
Good Luck!!

I'm looking to put a CAI in very soon and I'm curious if there's a big difference between JTL's CAI and C&L's CAI?? What about AEM's CAI?? As I'm doing my homework I seem to be getting more confused about which one to buy. I am a complete amature when it comes to this stuff so I apologize if this is a stupid question. Any information would be greatly appreciated and if anybody has a good website with great prices for CAI's feel free to email me
does a drop in k&n in a v6 require a tune? i have also heard that the k&n oil causes issues when injested. i know fram's airhog requires no oiling. has anyone used the air hog?
I sold my wrx and got this mustang, i am not going over board like i did with my 450 wheel hp 4wd sti...

Did one of the magazines actually do number comparisons on what the stock airbox with a good tune does on a dyno vs the CAI with a tune yet??
Seems like an awfull big HP claim for just an air filter assembly with the added pita of having to service it and dealing with the oil problems, etc. But it may be true on the mustang GT. I am sure it would sound very cool and give a little more throat to the motor. That may be worth it alone.
To me the aluminum would just be a heat sink. That is one reason (others incluse weight and cost) for plastic intake manifolds on newer cars. I think the main advantage is in the shape and removal of the ridges in the accordian style boot. (which actually could serve a purpose as a little turbulance in the correct proportions can be desirable)
My thoughts in the past on CAI's being added to high performance vehicles was that (ford, chevy, porsche, BMW, etc) put the stock style system in there for a reason and it obviously works.
If the CAI makes such a difference than how come some of the following high perf vehicles still use air boxes. Mustang GT500, corvette ZO6 and corvette, all porsches, M3's, etc etc.
There must be a reason. Servicing, noise, etc could all be possibles.
I am going to definatly do the tune this summer, I am not 100% sold on the intake yet.

i bought a drop in k&n air filter in my car just recently and enjoy it it makes my flowmasters sound deepr oddly enough. and it gives a signficant difference in power you can tell the diff. b/t it and the stock air filter. as far as injesting the oil? i don't exactly get what you are talking about. if that causes problems in a car most aftermarket filters would cause problems. anyways i like the drop in working great so far
I don't know how much the K&N cone filter costs, but I bought the Aircharger on ebay for only $200. It doesn't require a tune and the difference is definitely noticable! I will probably be adding a tune in the future anyway. $200 is probably the cheapest and best quality CAI that you can get. Well worth it if you don't want to spend a lot of money.
I have a question about another CAI. I recently posted about a S&B CAI on the v8 board. The S&B says they give 25rwhp with out a tune and only costs 210 bucks. Has anybody had any run-ins or knows anything about the quality of the product because I am very seriously considering it because I won't be purchasing a tuner until my warrenty runs out.
Here is the companies website.
