I have on 06 Gt that just turned 1000 miles today. The first time I filled her up I noticed the gas guage did not go up when I started the car. It moved up a little...slowly. I made a couple more stops on the way home and it continued to move a little bit at a time over the next 30 minutes. I got on it a bit right before getting home and noticed the guage went all the way to full. A week later I was starting to get low -91 miles to empty- when I parked it. The next morning when I started it I got a low fuel warning with 11 miles to go. I knew it was wrong but I got gas anyway and it did not hold a full tank. I have not had a chance to get to the dealer yet but it seems like the float in the tank might be sticking.

Until yesterday I didn't have any issues with the fuel gauge.

Yesterday I went for a full day of auto-x.

Before long my fuel gauge got pretty p-o'd at me for making it workout as much as the rest of the car (corner hard, fuel needle sweeps low, then high, then low, then...). It started telling me that I had 1/8 of a tank left when I had just done one session (after starting w/over 3/4 full). After trying a few things, I left the key in the acc position and it slowly crept up after about 10-15 minutes. Weird.

Oh, and speaking of hurting at the pump, in each session yesterday we covered about 15 miles, and my "gallons used" reading (which I'm pretty sure was spot on) consistently said 2 gallons. OUCH! Guess you have to expect that she's gonna drink deep when living life from 3K - 6K rpm.

Best,
-j

The first time I carried mine in for this problem they said they may have to replace the gas tank. The 2nd time, when I was nearly out of gas so I wouldn't waste any by them draining it, they said that if I ran 3 tanks of chevron gas through it that it may fix it. If not, to bring it back to them. They said the chevron gas may clean a sulfur build up that is causing the gauge to read wrong. All I know is if it messes up again, a new tank will be welcome.

If they're telling everyone to run Chevron, then why the hell does it say ford recommends BP on the cap!!!
