Default Gas Reading

I've noticed that my 06 Mustang sometimes gives me that low gas warning when I actually have half a tank or more... Eventually after 1 or 2 additional drives it will give me the correct reading. Has anyone else had the same problem?

I remember reading in another thread about a bad sending unit on some vehicles that they will replace under warranty.

geezes, seems like the same old Ford stuff they never fix or something. My old mustang would stay near full for like 3/4 of the tank hardly moving, then would suddenly drop like a stone to pretty much empty. I eventually just got in the habit of setting the trip computer and just filling it every so many miles, as at some point it simply stopped working. Had similar experiences with any number of Ford's in the family, but my last several cars haven't been fords, so I had forgotten about that.

while still HALF full? it will read 0miles when you still have about one gallon left in reserve, but i have not heard of half a tank of miscalculation. btw, get filled up before its at 0, because you lose track of how far its gone since hitting zero...and...well, lets say i learned the hard way

Want to rethink that answer, lol.

It hit 0 miles to empty, I drove the 1/2 mile to gas station and filled up over the gas tanks capacity.
I was doing this to get most of the 87 Octane out.

haha i remember that picture, you lucky bastard for getting gas so cheap.
for reference, that time i sputtered to a stop because it was completely bone dry...ya when i *pushed* it into the gas station, it only filled up 15.4gallons, even after topping it off. i, and many others, have driven 20+miles on "0 miles left to E" a number of times without incident. it all depends on how the computer calculates your remaining gas based on your recent driving habbits.
