Default Factory Clutch

I read today on the ford media website (i dont know the link off hand) a quote from a 3rd party source talking about reving the car up to 4k and dumping the clutch, and smoking the tires. This got me wondering does ford indorse this (by it being on thier website)? Can the factory clutch really hold up that that abuse? I am thinking maybe I have been babying my mustang to much =)

So far, after SEVERAL hard launches at the dragstrip (knocking on wood) my clutch is still perfect.Depending on conditions, I launch anywhere from 2000 to 3200 rpms.

Here is the quote:

"Speaking of gushing forth, let's move on to thrust. Three easy steps here: (1) Disable the traction control -- a large button up high on the dash, just as Don Garlits intended. (2) Zing the revs to four grand. (3) Dump the clutch. The Mustang squats an inch, then launches straight, hard, and true, painting five to ten feet of expensive P Zero Nero stripes, depending on road texture. In a flash, the V-8 bangs off the rev limiter, and the tires bark on the upshift to second like deep-chested Newfoundlands. Beautiful, man—smoke, noise, velocity, enraged neighbors. Unalloyed essence of Mustang…Sixty mph is yours in 5.2 seconds, 0.3 second quicker than the old five-speed GT and identical to the performance of a 305-hp, 32-valve Mach 1. One hundred mph looms large in 13.2 seconds, a 1.7-second improvement over the old GT. And the quarter-mile is history in 13.8 seconds at 102 mph."

I have been fairly easy on my car it only has 500 miles on it, but if you rev 4k, the tires are going to smoke right?

The clutch is a "wear and tear item" and not covered under warranty so rev away....just be prepared to replace it sooner than you might think.

With stock tires, you do not have to dump at 4k to light it up. 2500 to 2800 and you are up in smoke on the street.

That quotes from a Car and Driver review of the mustang, I believe. Manufacturers tend to be big on playing up such things, then telling you it's not covered if you do it and fry your clutch. Hell Mitsubishi has been somewhat infamous for giving out SCCA
memberships with the Evo's I believe, then having people at events taking license numbers or whatever and voiding people's warranties who actually raced them.

Totally true!!! And Mitsu has been all over people who have either tracked their car or taken their car to the drag strip, and voided warranties. They even had people on the forum boards looking for people who have done that stuff.
