Road Racing in an AUTO?
anyone ever tried it? im just wandering if it would even be enjoyable? hard exits from the corners, downshifting without control over torque, breaking the wheels loose, then trying to punch it on a straight-a-way, waiting for the downshift... there is of course the added control over never leaving the steering wheel with your right hand. but i hardly doubt that it makes up for the obvious shortcomings. let me know if you've tried it, or see people doing it.
There is a 05 GT at Paul's Mustang (where I got my dyno tune done) and a guy bought the auto just for that reason.. the auto trans is a good one on these years 05 and 06...
his is in pieces as he blew it up with to much funny gas.. (the engine not the trans.)
I sport shift all the time myself.. just like having a stick in a way..

but does slapping it up do any harm to your tranny? and does it still hit a rev limit in each gear where it wants to shift, but you arent letting it? not in the mood to go sport shifting through gears only to stress my engine.
Ok, first thing is gotta be made clear. If you want to race or just drive this Mustang at the limit you gotta get a manual tranny!
Ford doesn't have auto/shift (triptronic) trannys, which are so important when doing performance driving through the turns.
The auto tranny is not up to the task, and it is very easy to make a shifting mistake.
When I had my Mazda I loved that I could down shift into 3rd when I saw a gnarly hairpin, then as I entered it I would drop into 2nd and then use that gear to accelerate out of the turn. With the Mustang GT I would have to slam on the brakes, go through the turn slower than normal and then punch it and hope there's no delay before the auto shifts down into 2nd gear. I have more power than any Mazda, so I can make it up on the straights, but I personally like to have more control through the turns.
Plus the Mustang is much wider than most other imports, so it does take a bit of getting used to when driving down Sunset Blvd at top speeds late at night!

Ive taken my auto mustang autox plenty of times, never made a mistake , and if you do the tranny wont donshift unless its safe to do so. I also keep up with the manual tranny mustangs. Manually shifting wont hurt the car since the computer wont allow it to do any unsafe shifts. just practice driving around and getting used to it. Be careful though, the first time you exit a turn in 2nd and floor it the back end will come loose, time to learn throttle modulation.
